7 Things That Help Me Get Through Finals Week
Breaks to Prevent Breakdowns
Sometimes I study and look back and realize I don’t remember anything I just read. That’s my trigger that tells me to take a break. So, allow yourself to take breaks and forget about all your studying for just a little while. I usually study for one hour and then take about a 15-20-minute break. Go to the gym or just go for a run to get some fresh air!
Chill and Relax
Before you go to bed take a hot bath, drink some warm milk or a hot herbal tea. All of them help you to relax and calm down to get that good deep sleep before your final! Enough sleep is really important for your brain to be able to fully concentrate the next day.
Change of Scenery
Maybe you’ve been in the same exact seat, same exact room and same exact position for the past hour. Try to change the scene! I personally love going to a coffee shop or be outside and enjoy the sunshine while I study.
Food, Food, Food and Food
Who doesn’t like to eat? I mean seriously I think we would all go for some soft warm chocolate chip cookies. So, do it! My roomie and I bought three packs of cookies because we knew we would want some while we study. Also, did you know dark chocolate actually helps you to lower your stress :) A little healthier version of a snack would be various nuts. Don’t forget to eat a nutritious breakfast before taking your exam. One of my favorite breakfast is a shake with milk, blueberries, bananas and oats. To sweeten it up add a little bit of honey and cinnamon for an extra boost.
This is not for everyone, but it might be something for you! Get yourself a study buddy and try to make studying fun, order a pizza (might not be the best for your concentration but great for your heart) and try to make the best out of it. Also, don’t forget they’re going through the same thing as you are ;)
Guess what? As soon as you’re done with finals you are on Christmas break. So, listen to some Christmas music to get in Christmas spirit and you will be even more excited as soon as you’re done with everything.
First off, try to do as much as you can previous to finals week. After setting yourself a daily goal that you want to reach by the end of each day. The reason this helps me is because when I look back at my goals at night and I can check them off, I feel so accomplished. This also gives me a good overview on what I have done and what I have left to do. Additionally, set yourself a goal to be there a good bit early to avoid any stress on your test day.
MOST IMPORTANTLY BELIEVE AND TRUST IN YOURSELF!
